THANKS to all in the community who responded to the 'urgent/immediate attention email' sent about the female pit bull rescued from a dog fighting ring. Thank You!! Thank You!!
And here are the two updates sent out about her as well sense. There will be a post on this blogger and one sent to you who are on our mailing list, about her full story soon. But for those who are not yet familiar with Diamond's story, here is a part of it. I will be getting both before and after pictures on here asap too.
1ST UPDATE ON PIT BULL RESCUED WED FROM DOG FIGHTING RING:
Well to start with some good news, she just smiled for the first time and is enjoying chewing a rawhide strip right now! And she has been eating good and drinking lots of water!!
Now to the bad news. Last night I saw that her throat had been recently shaved. I thought weird and also wondered why. Then this morning its noticed she had not made any noise all night. Actually not a noise-or a peep since in our care. I was wondering why this morning she had been so quiet and it hits me, as the memory of seeing her throat had been shaved is hitting me too, she can't make any nioses! Why, her vocal cords have been cut!! There is a scar on her throat an inch or so in length. I hoped I was possibly wrong, but the vet confirmed this today. I will give a more detailed report from the Vet next time as she will be looked at more thoroughly tomorrow.
I really hope many of you will forward this story (and with the pictures too, as more are attached to this email) in order to bring
awareness to not only the problem of dog fighting in this area and the country but also, so people can see the extent of abuse these dogs who are unlucky enough to be born into this cruel madness that some have the audacity to call a sport.
2ND UPDATE:
To the Community,
First to the good stuff, as that is what is best to focus on and why we do what we do!!
She has gained 3-4lbs already, maybe 5, as we'll see at the nxt vet visit. She is still very scared but is for sure learning to trust again. This will be the longest road she will have to travel. Fixing her physically costs, but mentally, that takes time and lots of patience and can't be bought. She has gone from sitting quietly in a corner to playing and jumping around. She is always afraid she is doing something wrong, but the more she is reassured the more confidence she gains to be herself. She is slowly being house trained, as this is a tuff part too, because she was obviously beaten everytime she had an 'accident', so its a fine line to walk to tell her 'no', and show her the right way without scaring her. But she is coming along well so far and the best thing is to see her just lying back and smiling -yes, you can literally see her smiling. There will be a full story coming out soon about her and her whole ordeal.
Now to the harder parts. She is in need of some medical care coming up as soon as it can be done anyway. Her ears really need to be fixed and done the right way, as said before they were cut with sissors and not by a Vet. Also she needs to be spayed. Also her they need to have a special x-ray of her throat to see damage done of the soft tissue where they cut her vocal cords. And to see if anything could be done to correct this damage. Of course expenses for shots, deworming, flea control etc. were a given from the start.
So if you can help in any way, contact me by email or by phone 336-989-1730 and you can mail a contribution to us directly. Or you can go straight to the vet and put the donation into her account OR call it in with a credit card to the Vet themselves. Whatever makes you more confortable or which ever is more convenient for you. Either way you will get a reciept for your records. (if by mail to us -contact me personally and I will give you an address to send it to as our permanent one is being set up this week and are not advertising the old one anymore)
Thks so much.....and here are some new pics -see the difference in her body weight already!!

'WORLDWIDE FUR FREE DAY' Fri., Nov 28th
To our online members,
We wanted to pass this message along to announce to everyone about 'Worldwide Fur Free Day', on Fri, Nov. 28th. This below is to let everyone know the event held in Washington DC in honor of this day. We at CIActionNOW were hoping to have this day be the kick off the awareness campiagn about the fur industry that we will be starting shortly. But it looks like things won't begin with this campiagn as soon as hoped, but information will be coming out asap about this. Rosa Close, of the Anti-fur Society, has also promised to work closely with us on getting out this message and having a successful, upcoming campaign.
There will be information coming soon to you, links to undercover videos of fur farms and more.
I certainly never knew the horror behind this industry and am sure you'd be as equally shocked. After meeting with Rosa Close in DC at the Animal Rights Conference this year, she has agreed to as said, aid in anyway with our campaign. (flyers, posters, educational brochures etc.,) So, if interested or become interested down the road in working with us on bringing awareness to this issue please contact us! Also, please feel free to connect to the links below if you want for more information about this issue as well.
Thank You

RESCUE OF CHOCO LAB A SUCCESS
Back in August, 2 people from CIActionNOW were visiting a local animal shelter as there was a big adoption fare going on. In the parking lot they ran into a family surrendering their pets due to not being able to financially take care of them anymore. The father had a 3 month old female chocolate lab in his arms. The poor thing was shaking with fear as it heard the deafning barking sounds of the 100 plus dogs from the stray area. So one of the CIActionNOW members said they worked in dog rescue and asked if they would allow them to take the dog and find it a new home, and they agreed immediately. So they met off the property where the exchange was made. The puppy told their two kids goodbye and they were also reassured she would find a good home. As soon as the exchange was complete, the puppy's face went from a look of horror to the biggest smile and wagging her tale uncontrollably! She was then told, 'you don't have to worry anymore, you just go and be a puppy now, we will do all of the worrying for you now.'
Well, this promise has been kept as she found a new home with one of our volunteers/members who took to her immedately before her picture even had a chance to go up with the Lab Rescue group who was going to post her picture and help find her a home. He named her 'Nestle' and she now has a fenced in yard to play in with a dog house and toys, provided by CIActionNOW, and also sleeps at the bottom of his bed every night. Even his roommates love her and she's come to be a great 'alarm system' too they say. She also loves to climb trees?? lol...now that's different!!
So another great success story for sure and we wish her well!!
We continue, as always on any rescue dog, to keep a check on her, but rest assured she has found a happy home!!
So good luck to Nestle and thanks so much Patrick for opening your life, your heart, and your home. We wish you both the best!!!!!!!!!
